Netflix, a publicly traded online video rental company, is renowned for their innovative HR policies. The slide deck below was sent to Netflix employees and managers, and is full of useful insights into what makes this high performing company work so well.
While this isn't directly a Marketing issue, one could argue that making their policies public enhances their reputation. To quote MG Siegler on
TechCrunch: "
Other Companies Should Have to Read This Internal Netflix Presentation".
In summary, Netflix believes that the true values of a company are reflected in who they promote, reward or let-go. They want to work with people who embody the following 9 values:
* Judgement;
* Communication;
* Impact;
* Curiosity;
* Innovation;
* Courage;
* Passion;
* Honesty; and
* Selflessness.
The presentation above details each of these values. It's well worth a read.
In addition, there are seven aspects of Netflix Culture that are outlined:
* Values are what we Value
* High Performance
* Freedom & Responsibility
* Context, not Control
* Highly Aligned, Loosely Coupled
* Pay Top of Market
* Promotions & Development
Lastly, I love Netflix's Policies for Expensing, Entertainment, Gifts & Travel:
"
Act in Netflix's Best Interests" (5 words long). It seems to be working well for them.
