Do you know of a good affiliate advertising programme in SA to start with? I'm looking at placing advertising through an advertising network that offers some sort of affiliate programme - when a user clicks on an advert to go to a website, cookie is set. Once that same user fills in a booking enquiry or signs up for a newsletter on the particular website ... then I get a commission and so does the advertising network .... Does something like this exist with an advertising network that would target SA websites?
Hi
I have an advertising medium that is sort-of old school and new-school. Loads of research went into spread-betting it in order to maximize exposure at an optimized rate. But none of that ‘click to get some cash’. Those are a red haring. Like the chain mail that Bill Gates is giving away his money and that it was on the news or Carte Blance, except no-one remember ever seeing it…
I should perhaps have been more mot-au-mot.
I’ve looked into what you asked in your post a while ago. Being a trained ethnographer I have the marvelous privilege to have access to a large market research data-base. The odds that you might strike it lucky with a commission per click system are stacked up against you. The reasons for this are ample. The database shows that the hiccup lays with the local market that is too competitive. Coupled with that, the marketing strategy is build upon the legacy of redundant techniques. Like one guy told me: I would love to make more money, but if I now get a sudden rush, I’ll fold. The weird catch 22 is in the minds of jaded marketers.
In short, your chances of “selling” this to an astablised company are between 0 and 3%.
The chances of making this work with a startup is - well, unknown.
A rule of thumb is that everything that works in the 1st or new world fails here. But everything that works here, works just as well in other parts of Africa.
To get back to my original post; taking in consideration that the current systems are build upon the debris of a era past, I devised a advertising medium that uses the channel that have most momentum with the older folk that have the controlling share in the market. Yet, it pushes the door open into new media advertising.
Having said al that, sometime events like a world cup tournament opens the window of opportunity for such a venture to be a success. The research does not anticipate SA being slung into the technological fast lane by an anomalous happening.
So good luck. Keep us updated.
You posting spurred me into some research. (I'm exploring how to market an eBook written by South African authors.) Looks like OfferForge is a South African option.
